Alyssa and I went to the dentist today. She hit her teeth on the floor while spinning around like Elsa two weeks ago and now one of her teeth is starting to discolor. The dentist said she is fine unless it abscesses. Her tooth may just be "bruised" and will turn a normal color again! We are glad that she isn't going to be toothless though. Three years old seemed a little young for that!
My dear visiting teacher, who is an excellent example of keeping your children engaged in learning and reading told me about their bedtime ritual. Each night as part of it she reads aloud a chapter book. I have heard of people doing this with their toddlers. I even tried once, but it didn't work to well. I felt inspired by her success (she's done it for over 12 years) and decided to give it a try again. It is my Read Aloud Book Project. It has been about three weeks and so far, so good!
We finished reading Little House in the Big Woods by Laura Ingalls Wilder today. We have been reading each night before bed and this week it has turned into each time we feel like reading. Alyssa really enjoyed the book and the time we spent together while reading it. She mostly picked out words here and there and would laugh about them. I don't think she quite understood the whole plot, but she loved the few and far between illustrations!
We are excited to start our next book - The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis tonight. (She calls it her "temple book" because it has a picture of a castle on the front.) I am sure we will both enjoy it!

Oh how fun! My mom read all the Big House on the Prairie series books to us when we were little. I don't remember much about them but I do remember it was a good time with my mom.
