8.25.2020

A Rainy Saturday

I think Saturday's, 8.22.2020, weather was a gift from God. A thunderstorm started in the early morning and lasted a good hour.

I had a college roommate from Texas that said she missed Texas thunderstorms after experiencing a Utah thunderstorm. I don't think I quite understood the gravity of that statement until now having lived through some Texas thunderstorms. They just tend to last a long time and be quite dramatic.

The storm blew in cooler weather that lasted much of the morning and allowed for some outside adventuring. Alyssa and Erik went on a walk during the thunderstorm. They visited Red Bud Isle in the lake just behind our complex. They also visited the lake, you might say!

Later in the morning, when we realized it was still only 75 and beautiful, we all went on a hike together along the Barton Creek trail. The kids are all getting better and better at hiking. Joel walked the entire thing! (Mind you, it was probably less than .5 miles round trip...but it did take about 45 minutes each way!) We saw some fine chicken right at the beginning of our journey.

The best part was the creek at the bottom that actually had water! The kids had a wonderful time walking and swimming around. Taft was particularly in love with it and Kent has no fear so he was up and down and in and out! We ate lunch there and then hiked back out!

Yes, that is mud on Kent's face, not chocolate. He fell a few times while hiking down, holding his roll so when he would then eat his roll, mud got on his face.

I love watching my kids play outside, doing small yet grand and adventurous things. In a way it helps me see glimpses of what lies ahead when everyone is a little bit older. We are going to have so much fun when we aren't always taking naps and everyone can walk for more than 5 minutes! It also feels so good and wholesome. We do things that are energizing our souls and bringing us joy! We hike, even when it's muddy. We play in the water, even when it means we have to carry out two 5 pound diapers that are SOAKED. We learn and grow and observe new things and our character becomes a little more robust!
